DIYoneer Living Workshops:
Midwestern Workshops for Self Reliance
DIYoneer: Noun pronounced die-oh-near
A DIYoneer is a person who occupies a place within a wide range of “do-it-yourselfers”, they are a hybridized group often thought of as modern-day inventors working within the system to leave the system. They could be those living in urban settings and trying to live economically to those who have taken the large step off the “reservation” and are living in the country on their own. Some are highly social; others are quiet people who like to keep to themselves. All are inventive, resourceful and don’t necessarily feel as if their range of skills is highly taken advantage of in today’s culture.
Are you a DIYoneer?:
- Do you find yourself searching for new skills that increase your survivability despite your ability to drive to a store and purchase conveniences much more easily. e.g. cheesemaking, keeping chickens, organic gardening, composting etc.
- Do you find the prospect of giving something you don’t need for some item or service you do need more attractive than paying money for something you need?
- Do you have either an outright or newly-planted seed of an idea that the way that our culture behaves is just not quite right?
-
Do you find yourself constantly on the lookout for
items to poach from other peoples trash/giveaways/yard sales?
Conundrum: The DIYoneer and the Workshop:
There are some DIYoneers that can’t imagine having to spend money to go to a workshop in order to learn a skill that they could read from a book or look up on the internet. But each of us must admit that, in doing that, there may have been more than one occasion where the internet instructions for how to castrate a bull calf were not sufficiently descriptive for comfort or another time when the repeated mispronunciation of the word ‘aphid’ left a confused look on the face of an old farmer you were talking to.
Regardless of your opinion, experience or desire to learn from others what you could learn for free from a book, there is a history of verbal, experiential and community knowledge that is quickly being lost by an entire generation of people who want to make their lives more sustainable and who are starting from scratch. For those of you who like to learn from previous generation’s mistakes, these workshops are the answer for you.
Our DIYoneer workshops will give you the opportunity
to meet others, flesh out ideas and learn from people who have been doing these
activities in real life time.
